If a child's hands are too small or s/he is having difficulty manipulating a mouse (and let's face it, so do many adults!) then there are alternatives to save everybody getting frustrated. After all, the child wants to make something happen on screen, not be held up by the technology. The skills will come in time as co-ordination develops.

Microsoft used to produce an excellent brightly coloured ball called the EasyBall. Then we had the Genius RollerBall and the Crayloa KidsBall. Then, horror, it wasn't produced by anyone any more. But now we have - ta-dah! - what we've all been waiting for - the brand new BigTrack replacement with PS2 AND USB connectors.

It features a robust extra large ball, making it extremely easy to move accurately. It doesn't require finger control - a swipe at the ball and a thump on the buttons works just as well! And it's made to stand up to just that sort of treatment. The connection between ball movement and cursor movement is also much easier to understand than when using a mouse (when what you do with your hand doesn't connect with the movement you see on screen). This makes it ideal for early learning and learning difficulties alike.

We have one and it's well worth the investment.

OR you could try the family mouse - this package includes a mini-mouse, a mummy or daddy-mouse and a mouse co-pilot. Very competitively priced.
