Technophobia!

I am a mum who doesn't like PCs! I've never used a computer and I don't think I want to!
Does it matter?

Please pluck up your courage and find somewhere with a friendly welcome to 'have a go' - you'll be amazed at how much fun it can be!!

Many women do feel phobic about technology and I have great sympathy with this.(It's a bit like I feel about spiders!) However, the best way to help our children feel comfortable with IT is to enjoy using computers ourselves!

For the future generations, IT will not be an optional extra. Whatever we think about the rights or wrongs, they will need to use IT every day.

Sadly, lots of young people, especially young women, are still leaving school with a fear of IT or simply a lack of interest in its capabilities, and this is already having a knock-on effect on their employment prospects.

To help yourself gain confidence, see if you can find a local IT for All Centre near you. You can get the details from the DTI helpline or Learning Direct.

IT4U is one of the few providers who give mums a special welcome and can also give toddlers an opportunity to try out specialist equipment that they've found useful themselves.

IT4U is based in North Hertfordshire near the borders with Essex and are working closely with KCS to provide Tools for the Computer Enabled.

IT4U is also a BBC Webwise campaign partner. A new campaign will coincide with this year's Adult Learners week, offering everyone free IT taster sessions.

Maths Action 2000 will be celebrated with free BBC 'Count Me In' CDRom sessions for parents who would like to know more about what children are learning in maths lessonsb today. Please contact us for details.
