Ideally, we need something cheaper, tougher and more portable than a laptop. Do you have any suggestions?

Lots of schools now provide an Alphasmart for their pupils. There are two models currently available, the wireless Dana (£299.00) and the simpler Neo (£185.00). Prices do not include carriage or VAT. Approx size 30cm x 25cm - a bit bigger than an A4 sheet of paper - and weighs less than a kilo.
